Is Burning Well,
Is just the Ash.

Well, I’m alive – who would credit it?
Not convinced about that ash though… you’ve read my homepage; you know I’ve got the fire connection. There’s plenty more than poetry left behind, and some of it is even good for the roses.
I figure the poetry is more like the aroma – so evocative, so immediate. It alerts me, wakes me up, inspires me to action… and lingers tantalizingly after the blaze has passed, fading, dispersing.
And if I poke the ash, there’s still a trace, a puff of memory
a yesterday, a childhood, a death.

and if my words
should touch your heart
to make you cry ~
the wayward wind
for having blown
my lowly ash
into your eye

And the wayward wind I do blame.
